A New Chapter for Lagos: Hilton Hotels and the Expansion of the Marina

Lagos, one of the Algarve’s most beloved coastal cities, is entering a new phase of development that promises to strengthen its position as a leading destination in southern Europe. Two new Hilton-branded hotels are currently under construction next to Lagos Marina, while the marina itself is undergoing an important expansion and redevelopment project.

Together, these developments represent a major investment in the future of the city and are expected to bring new opportunities for tourism, local businesses, and property owners.

Two New Hilton Hotels Coming to Lagos

One of the most exciting projects currently underway in Lagos is the construction of two international Hilton hotels near the marina. The development is led by the Mercan Properties Group and represents an investment of more than €107 million in the region.

The project will introduce two new hotels to the city:

  • Lagos Marina Hotel – Curio Collection by Hilton, a five-star hotel

  • Hilton Garden Inn Lagos, a modern four-star hotel

The Curio Collection by Hilton hotel will feature approximately 180 rooms, a restaurant, two bars, and rooftop leisure areas including an infinity pool overlooking the marina.

Next to it, the Hilton Garden Inn Lagos will offer around 90 rooms, including suites with small kitchenettes, as well as a restaurant, gym, and outdoor pool.

Together, these two hotels will add more than 250 new rooms to the hospitality capacity of Lagos and are expected to create approximately 188 direct jobs in the region once they open.

The hotels are currently under construction and are expected to open around 2026, bringing internationally recognized hospitality brands to the city.

The Transformation of Lagos Marina

Alongside the hotel development, Lagos Marina is also undergoing a significant upgrade designed to modernize the area and support the growing number of visitors and boat owners.

The expansion project will add 102 new berths for boats and yachts, including vessels up to 30 meters long, increasing the marina’s overall capacity.

The redevelopment will also include:

  • A new yacht club

  • Additional commercial spaces and restaurants

  • A redesigned public waterfront area

  • Around 135 new parking spaces

These improvements aim to transform the marina into an even more vibrant hub for both visitors and residents.

What This Means for Lagos

Projects like these are more than just new buildings. They represent a broader transformation of the city’s waterfront and tourism infrastructure.

With new international hotels and an expanded marina, Lagos is expected to attract:

  • More international travelers

  • Luxury tourism and sailing visitors

  • New restaurants and businesses

  • Increased global visibility for the city

The redevelopment also helps modernize an area that previously included underused spaces near the train station and marina, turning it into a lively part of the city.

A Positive Impact for the Local Community

For local residents and businesses, the expansion of Lagos Marina and the arrival of global hospitality brands can bring several benefits.

New hotels typically generate jobs, support local suppliers, and attract visitors who spend money in restaurants, shops, and local activities. The project is expected to create hundreds of jobs during construction and permanent positions once the hotels open.

In addition, the improvements to public spaces around the marina will make the area more attractive for walking, dining, and enjoying the waterfront.

Strengthening Lagos as an International Destination

Over the past decade, Lagos has evolved into one of the Algarve’s most dynamic and desirable cities. Its historic center, stunning beaches, and relaxed lifestyle already attract travelers from across Europe and beyond.

The addition of internationally recognized hotels and the modernization of the marina will further strengthen Lagos’s reputation as a high-quality tourism destination.

For visitors, this means more accommodation options and improved facilities. For the city, it means continued growth while preserving the charm and beauty that make Lagos so special.

As these projects move closer to completion, they mark an exciting new chapter in the evolution of Lagos one that blends modern development with the timeless appeal of the Algarve coast.
